Volunteering Descriptions
Student & Family Events
Each year, the PTA plans and executes or supports a wide range of events for students and families. Ranging from small to large, these events help enrich the students' academic experience and bring the Hinsdale community together. Volunteers are always needed to help. As a member of the Student & Family Events Committee, you'll have opportunities to help year-round and find flexibility in volunteering that meets your individual needs. Following are a few of the events and activities we support with many more in the works.
Fundraising Committee
Our Fundraising Committee helps support efforts to raise money that can be used to pay for special programming, health and wellness initiatives, classroom parties and more. As a member of the Fundraising Committee, you'll have the opportunity to support larger fundraising initiatives that happen annually as well as smaller, year-round initiatives. Volunteers will find a lot of flexibility in how they can support fundraising efforts as part of this team. Some opportunities for this committee include:
5th Grade Achievement
The PTA works with 5th grade teachers to plan and facilitate annual 5th grade promotion activities. Volunteer opportunities are available Feb-May for planning, organizing and executing the event. We prefer volunteers do not have a 5th grade student so those parents may experience everything with their child(ren).
Pod Parent
Pod Parents work directly with your grade level lead teacher to align on goals and expectations for the holiday and valentine's classroom parties as well as the grade level end of year celebration. Once aligned, you'll bring the individual room parents for your grade together and jointly plan and execute the event. Pod parents will be activated in Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb and April/May for planning. Pod Parents would need to be on-site for these events.
Room Parent
Room Parents work with the Pod Parent to plan and execute holiday and Valentine's Day classroom parties as well as an end of year celebration. Generally speaking, Room Parents are on-site for these events (though in some cases responsibility may be shared).
Financial Committee
Members of the financial committee periodically review the PTAs bank statements and other financial documents to ensure money is being spent as agreed upon in the approved budget. Volunteers on this committee will spend approximately 1 hour/month and 2 hours for the end-of year financial review in early July.

- Jingle Bell Boulevard - Our annual shopping event takes place in December and gives students a chance to select and purchase gifts for family and friends. All items are $5 or less. Volunteers are needed to assist with planning and inventory selection all year long as well as set-up/tear down and student shopping in mid-December.
- Breakfast With Buddies - This annual event gives students a chance to bring an adult family member or friend to school for breakfast. Help is needed in advance of the event with planning and securing donations as well as at the event with set-up, serving and clean-up.
- Popcorn Fridays - Each month, we celebrate with the students and provide popcorn for the "Patriot of the Month" recognition. Volunteers help prepare and hand out the popcorn.
- Family Outing - Each year, we try to do one outing that's fun for the whole family. Last year, the PTA provided free student tickets to a Florence Y'alls game and reduced prices for other family members. Volunteers for this type of event may help with planning, ticket sorting/delivery and more.

- Carnival - This fun event helps build excitement for the new school year. We typically have 20+ games and concessions available. Volunteers are needed to help with planning during the summer and on the day of the event for set-up, execution and tear down.
- Monster Dash - This is the school's largest fundraiser and can use a lot of volunteer support. Volunteers will have an opportunity to help with prize sorting throughout October as well as set-up, execution and tear down on event day. We would also welcome help identifying and contacting potential sponsors for the event t-shirt.
- Spirit Wear Committee - We hold spirit wear sales several times during the school year, and volunteer support is needed for merchandise sorting and delivery.
- Restaurant Nights - Our restaurant nights typically happen once each month during the school year with a percentage of restaurant sales being donated back to the PTA. Volunteers can assist with this effort by contacting restaurants to get Hinsdale on their schedules.
- School Supply Kits - Each spring, we offer families an opportunity to purchase school supply kits for the following year. Volunteers can help sort/deliver kits in early August to the appropriate pods.
- Got Sneakers - We collect used gym shoes year-round and send them in to Got Sneakers. For each pair we send, we receive money back - even badly worn shoes can bring money back to our school. Volunteers are needed to pick-up donations and drop off at FedEx 1-2 times per month throughout the year.
